Comme des Garçons PLAY Materials & Construction
Precision is the essence of simplicity, and Comme des Garçons PLAY is based on the idea of identity. The clothes are created using a feeling for the quality of materials, a minimalistic use of the design language and a functional use that is not limited to the fashion of the time.
The collection is no different from the others in this respect that there is no such thing as too little. It is intentional and deliberate.
1. CDG Hoodie
Fabric:
The finest mid-weight cotton fleece is used to make PLAY hoodies, typically 100% cotton French terry. The inside of the loopback will be comfortable to wear and breathable, while the outside will be structured. Some alternatives involve cotton fiber or cotton with added polyester fibers to create a variety of textures and durability.
Weight & Construction:
The hoodies are usually made from 220 to 320 GSM, which allows them to be worn all year round. Depending on the model, the interior finish can be loopback or lightly brushed. Details of the construction are the same throughout the range, with ribbed cuffs and hem to aid in shape retention, an adjustable drawstring hood and a practical kangaroo pocket for everyday use.
Origin:
Production takes place throughout Japan and in some partner plants in Asia, with some production in Europe being dependent on collection and distribution season.
Branding:
It subtly features the signature PLAY logo of the heart on the chest. It is used as a minimalist embroidery or patchwork design, and is recognized by the brand.
2. CDG Cardigan
Fabric:
Comme des Garcons Cardigans are knit from the highest quality natural fibres, mainly 100% merino wool or 100% cotton knit. The emphasis is always on the purity of the material and each fiber works to create texture, warmth and structure without blending interference.
Weight & Construction:
The knitting stitches used for these articles are fine to medium gauge which gives them a lightweight but insulating feel. Ribbed cuffs and hems provide structural support and the button front closure provides a clean and timeless look all year round and for all styles.
Origin:
Generally, production is divided between Japan and Italy depending on the material and the production requirements.
Branding:
The red heart symbol is embroidered or attached as a patch, discreetly, on the chest. It is intentionally located and does not overwhelm the overall structure of the garment.
3. CDG Long Sleeve Tops
Fabric:
The PLAY tops for long sleeves are made from a 100% cotton jersey fabric, a highly breathable, soft and skin friendly fabric. Lightweight technical blends for added versatility, or slightly heavier jerseys for another seasonal change are among the options.
Weight & Construction:
These pieces are generally made in 160-200GSM which is a lightweight and flexible weight. The design is still basic with crew neckline, set-in sleeves and a straight hem which gives a clean and consistent fit.
Origin:
Production is primarily in Japan, but some may be produced in Portugal or Italy as per collections and distributions.
Branding:
Printed or embroidered PLAY heart logo is on the chest of each piece. The branding remains subtle and simple, to ensure the garment's clean and essential identity is maintained.
4. Comme des Garçons Shirts
Fabric:
PLAY shirts are only produced in woven fabrics (like poplin and broad cloth) that are 100% cotton. They are made with the intention of being breathable, retaining their shape without synthetic reinforcement, and having a crispness to the material that is created.
Weight & Construction:
These are lightweight tailoring, typically 100 – 120 GSM. Shirts are made in a classic button down style, with structured collars and little decoration or embellishment, with the emphasis placed on silhouette and fabric rather than decoration.
Origin:
Most woven shirts are produced in Japan, a few in Portugal and other factories in Europe according to demand during some seasons.
Branding:
Little or no branding is used with just a small embroidered heart on the chest. In other versions the branding is entirely omitted, to accentuate purity of form and material.
Why Customers Choose CDG PLAY
Fabric Quality:
Each is made of natural materials with functional and high quality, suitable for people's comfort, durability and environmental protection.
Construction Standard:
The stitching, weight balance and structural strength of PLAY garments is uniform, ensuring reliability in all categories.
Design Identity:
The PLAY heart design is intended to be a discreet symbol to signify the brand – not a billboard to advertise the brand so that the garment becomes the focus.
